May, in case you didn't already know, is Bike Everywhere Month. On Friday, in honor of celebration-within-the-celebration Bike Everywhere Day, Cascade Bicycle is hosting dozens of "celebration stations" regionwide, with support from local partners and sponsors like Microsoft, Yeti, Move Redmond, Eastrail Partners, and Bellevue Brewing.
Bike Everywhere Day is a way for seasoned bike commuters to enjoy free coffee, pastries, bike-themed swag, and to connect with a community of fellow bike riders and biking advocates. Staff and enthusiasts from the Cascade Bicycle Club will be on hand at several stations to answer questions and discuss giveaways.
“Swapping a few car trips per week for trips by bicycle or electric bike is a great way to improve your health, enjoy the beautiful spring weather, save money, and reduce your carbon emissions," said Paul Paul Tolmé, content strategy and media relations manager for Cascade Bicycle Club, in a prepared statement. "Automobiles are the single largest contributor to our carbon footprint in Washington and nationwide — and bicycling is a great way to do good while improving your health."
Locations and times of all celebration stations and events can be found here.
A few celebration stations on the Eastside include:
- Kirkland: From 7-9 a.m. on the Cross Kirkland Corridor, you can learn more about the Eastrail and new trail sections opening this year. The stop will have swag, snacks, and coffee.
- Spring District: From 8:30-10 a.m., there will be light snacks, bike maps, and cycling information from Sound Transit and Bike Bellevue in the Spring District. There will be special Yeti guest appearance for photo opportunities and a chance to win a Yeti bag. From 2-4 p.m., School of Rock students will be playing on an outdoor stage. Food and beverages will be available from Bellevue Brewing.
- Bellevue: From 7-10 a.m., Choose Your Way Bellevue will be offering bike-related giveaways, branded swag, and more. There will be two other stations — one on 108th Avenue near the Transit Center, and another on the 520 Bike Trail, just before the bridge.
