Famous Dave’s BBQ and the PNW BBQ Association have collaborated to bring the first Washington BBQ competition to Everett on Sunday, Aug. 29, from 12-6 p.m.

More than 30 teams will compete for a $5,000 prize jackpot in the categories of chicken, pork ribs, and brisket.

Pitmasters selected by the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) take home cash prizes, a trophy, and go on to the Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational, as well as the World Food Championships televised food event.

A wild card appetizer challenge also gives competitors an opportunity to have their name featured on the menu at a number of Famous Dave’s locations.

Wild card winners will be picked by celebrity judges Famous Dave’s founder Dave Anderson, competitive food marketing visionary Mike McCloud, B-Dub from 98.9 the Bull radio, and president and CEO of Ascend Hospitality Group Elaina Morris.

“This is exciting news and a great opportunity for our industry,” event organizer Saffron Hodgson said in a release. “Famous Dave’s has partnered with the PNW BBQ Association to give teams in our area a chance to get back into the food sports arena, and there’s going to be a lot of activity for consumers and teams alike.”

The free family-friendly event heats up in the parking lot adjacent to Famous Dave’s Everett Mall location, featuring outdoor games and activities, music by 98.9 The Bull, and a 21+ drink garden. Food and beverages are available for purchase.
