Students create during a recent event at BASIS Independent Schools' new Bellevue campus.

BASIS Independent Schools, part of Spring Education Group’s private-school network, kicked off its inaugural school year at the new Bellevue campus late last month.

A recent welcome event offered guests a firsthand look at the 2nd-through 7th-grade campus alongside science and classroom demonstrations highlighting the BASIS teaching and curriculum model.

The school's approach, which utilizes smaller group instruction led by subject expert teachers, combines creative and collaborative opportunities through academically challenging interactive experiences, a release said.

“The response from families in the greater Seattle area has been nothing less than extraordinary,” BASIS Independent Schools' Head of School Elizabeth Thies said in the release. “We are excited to bring BASIS Independent Schools’ excellence to families through our Bellevue campus, and we look forward to continuing to grow with our students in the community, where we believe in setting a higher standard for our students by promoting self-reliance and accountability in a culture where hard work is celebrated.”

With current enrollment full, the first 230 students eventually will become the school’s first wave of middle and high school students for the planned expansion to serve students through 12th grade.
