In collaboration with CULTIVATE, Purposefully Reshaping Inner Spirit and Mind (PRISM) is launching its first interactive holistic mental health event Saturday, Aug. 21, from 2-6 p.m in Tacoma at Historic 1625 Tacoma Place.
The event features eight different art installations that actively center the stigma faced by Black communities around mental health.
Guests will experience a four-hour journey that immerses them into holistic exercises like traditional ancestral meditation, art therapy, massage therapy, and therapeutic writing.
A Zen Garden teaches participants about ecotherapy and the healing properties of nature. A mirrored cylindrical sound booth brings visitors face to face with themselves, while listening to inspirational stories by others who have struggled with mental health.
“We want to help people, and families navigate through this break in the mental health system,” said Franchesca Vargas, creator and director of PRISM and CULTIVATE. “We’re educating our community about the benefits of holistic mental health practices, and helping them to avoid turning to drugs, or suicide, harming themselves, and the people that love them.”
Several health care professionals will be on site to assist individuals that are ready to take the next step. Find tickets here.
