Bellevue-based Aegis Living has opened another new senior assisted living and memory care property on the Eastside. Aegis Living Kirkland Waterfront, at 1002 Lake St. South, follows the recent opening of Aegis Living Bellevue Overlake.

Privately held Aegis Living — with 34 facilities in Washington, California, and Nevada — has six additional properties under way, including communities in the Eastlake/Lake Union, Ballard, Greenwood, and Laurelhurst neighborhoods of Seattle, and in California.

“Heading into 2020, we set aggressive goals to double in size over the next decade,” Dwayne Clark, founder, CEO, and chairman of Aegis Living, said in a news release. “Our goal has always been to grow smart so we can continue meeting the incredible demand for high-quality senior care. Emerging from the pandemic and seeing where we are today is a testament to our entire team – our dedication to fighting the coronavirus and never wavering on our deep commitment to our residents and staff as we continue innovating and pushing new boundaries.”

The Kirkland Waterfront property design was inspired by the Amalfi Coast in Italy, and combines old-world Italian charm with modern amenities, according to the release. It features 106 apartments, various culinary options, engagement and wellness programming, and other amenities, including a massage and fitness center, wine cave, cinema, salon, juice bar, pub, and top-floor lounge and outdoor terrace offering sweeping views of Lake Washington.

The designated memory care floor features experiential design to inspire fond memories and foster connection among residents. The community’s outdoor courtyard features a scene of the Grand Canal in Venice with an authentic Italian gondola and Roman “ruins.” Inside, an interactive Italian “road trip” takes residents on a journey to rekindle memories of a favorite European vacation or inspire them to imagine getaways they may have dreamed of, the release says.

The recently opened Bellevue property has similar features, but with a Pacific Northwest theme. Like that property, the Kirkland site offers a personalized wellness plan for each resident focused on nutrition, sleep, movement, nature, cognitive wellness, and mindfulness. Aegis Living also mandated the COVID vaccine for all staff beginning July 1 and has seen nearly 100 percent participation, it said.
