Has your home been on the market for months without selling? You are not alone. Perhaps you’re putting all the blame on the slow market — which is certainly a valid argument. But maybe you need to make your home more desirable to potential buyers. Staging may be the answer to expediting the sale of your home. And even if you aren’t selling, some of these tips from professional home stagers Robin Weaver and Kelly Lawson of Interiors Etc. of Issaquah can also improve your space so it is more desirable for you!
1. Curb Appeal
Keep grass cut and trimmed. Weed and trim all landscaping. If you have a porch or deck area, make sure to place a few key floral pots to make it more attractive. Make sure your front door looks nice — if it doesn’t, paint or replace it.
2. De-Clutter
Store away two-thirds of all books, toys and other items that look to others like clutter. Clear off all kitchen and bathroom counters, leaving two or three items out only. Do not leave out toothbrushes, plungers or toilet brushes.
3. De-Personalize
Personalized items to keep at a minimum include family photos, hobbies, collections and religious paraphernalia. Keep one to two framed photos maximum, per room.
4. Light and Color
Make sure there is ample light in each room. Add lamps, brighten wall color and open the drapes. Use colors that pop as accents in each room. These two items are important for your home’s first impression — especially in online photos. Many people will not bother calling if they don’t like what they see on their computer.
5. Clean, Clean, Clean
A manicured lawn, the appearance of tons of storage (remember you cleared the clutter!), gourmet kitchens and fancy furniture will not sell a house if the home is dirty. Clean the yard, windows, bathrooms, kitchen appliances and carpets … clean is the key!
