Little Girls Love Tea Parties

Little girl birthdays are so much fun.  With only one little girl in our family, the party for Ella’s fourth birthday had to be pink and perfect.

Almost every little girl I know loves the idea of a tea party. Whether she has been to an actual high tea or not is irrelevant. For a little girl, a tea party means cookies and dress up with her friends. It doesn’t take a lot to create a magical party. All you really need is a child-sized table and enough chairs for all her friends. Little girls are so full of imagination that just a few decorations make a regular tea party a fantasy party.

Menu
Strawberry Scones
Almond Butter and Jelly Sandwiches
Strawberry and Cream Cheese Sandwiches
Strawberry Lemonade

Simple Tablecloth
On the table, I layered some of my favorite fabrics, including blue linen and pink-striped canvas that I sewed bright-blue rickrack to. Giant flowers made out of construction paper and tape became place mats. Extra dots from the flower-making project added to the table. Using washable linens and paper decorations means not being stressed out about anything getting ruined. Linen and canvas go straight into the washing machine without any problem.

Finger Food for Little Ladies
Traditional tea party treats are not entirely desirable treats for little ladies. My little ones would not be too interested in smoked salmon or cucumber — but they loved strawberry and cream cheese.  Any favorite sandwich cut small with cookie cutters will be eaten up.

Fun Parting Gifts
Sending the little girls home with a treat is customary. Since they had already eaten quite a bit of cookies, Skittles and lemonade, I didn’t think they needed more sugar. So I wrapped up felt cupcakes in pink bakery boxes for each girl. They are super adorable — and are the perfect treat for tea parties with their teddy bears.

Classic and Ready to Make
The classic Fisher Fair Scone mix is easy to make and available at most grocery stores. Ready-to-make strawberry lemonade is also available, or you can make your own by thawing frozen strawberries and adding them to lemonade.

Pretty Centerpiece
To create the perfect whimsical centerpiece, I stacked teacups on top of each other and stuck pink gerbera daisies in the top cup. Filling the cups with Skittles candies made the flowers even more adorable, but also proved a tempting treat for the little hands. Princess-worthy chairs were easy to create with feather boas from a costume shop. An “E” cut out of cardstock marked Ella’s chair at the head of the table.
